10:30 am to 12:00 noon
150 University Hall
Speaker: Bill Allison, Director, ISTCampus Technology Services
Bill Allison will discuss the OE Productivity Suite initiative. Topics will include the status of contracts for on-premise software and the current state of the move to a new integrated email/calendar system.
He will discuss the road map for engaging campus in a variety of forums to discover underlying concerns about the transition and elicit suggestions and priorities during implementation of the system.
Regarding the Productivity Suite initiative, its goal is to provide faculty, staff, and students with a comprehensive, widely used set of software tools that can aid collaboration and increase productivity. These tools include the suite of Adobe products that has already been made available to campus, other desktop productivity software, plus an outsourced system for email and calendaring. While calendaring and email are currently separate systems, the new system chosen will have email and calendar on the same system. This integration will offer many benefits for the user experience and also the challenges accompanying roll out of any new, widely used system.
Bring your questions and issues regarding Productivity Suite, issues of support, transition, etc.

In this presentation, Rick Jaffe will introduce the Research Hub, a new service from Information Services and Technologies (IST) that provides powerful tools for content management and collaboration. Research Hub is available to campus members at hub.berkeley.edu (CalNet ID required).
Research Hub allows users to create sites personal or shared work spaces, complete with a document library, a wiki, a workflow engine and other tools to support group communication and project work. With Research Hub, you can store and manage files securely; browse documents quickly; add folders, tags, comments, and descriptive information to organize and annotate content; use full-text search and advanced filtering to find content fast; and automatically maintain versions of your documents. (No more time wasted editing an old draft!) Easily managed site membership and role-based permissions let users share materials broadly, yet ensure that private files remain private. Research Hub connects to your desktop, laptop, iPad, and smart phone, and integrates with favorite applications all the while keeping your materials protected in the UC Berkeley data center.
Through demonstration and discussion, Rick will teach the basics of using this new service, answer support questions as appropriate (issues that might resonate with the entire audience), describe the landscape of related services available to campus, and hear Micronet members' thoughts on their needs vis-a-vis file management and collaboration services.
Rick Jaffe is Support Lead for the Research Hub service.

- Are we really about to run out of IP addresses?
- What is IPv6?
- Am I really going to have to start using it soon?
- Are ICANN and the US government really mandating IPv6?
- Will I really need to configure my computer with addresses like "2607:f140:ffff:ffff:2a0:c9ff:fe9c:7291" just to get on the net?
- Is it true that IPv6 and IPv4 can't coexist?
- Do I really need a 64 bit OS to run IPv6?
- Do I need Cat6 wiring for IPv6?
- Will all of the new addresses in IPv6 cause us to run out of DNS names and will we have to replace DNS?
- Won't NAT just solve the problem?...wait, am I really going to have to run NAT everywhere?
- Is it true that IPv6 tunnels around firewalls and security devices?
- Will I be able to track down rogue IPv6 devices on my network?
- Is IPv6 really going to happen and am I going to have to do something to prepare?
- Is IPv6 really the next Y2K (only for real this time)?

A context-setting overview of what IST Application Architecture is providing to IST developers will frame a request for input from Micronet about what a central application architecture group can do for departmental IT staff; that discussion is intended to dovetail with the second major topic of this month's Micronet meeting ...
Creating an active community of application/service developers on campus. Does creation of an active community of application/service developers on campus warrant forming a new group? Or should such a group somehow be a part of or attached to Micronet? These questions were raised at the February meeting , and will get a full airing on March 20th. Please join in this discussion with Steve Masover and Ryan Means.
