Jack Shnell of Information Services and Technology gives an update on IST storage and on their new Network Attached Storage infrastructure

Jack will review the newly approved recharge rates for IST storage and backup services, and then discuss the infrastructure developments that enable continuing reductions in cost to customers.

In February, IST began the build-out of its new permanent Business Resumption (BR) facility at San Diego Supercomputing Center (SDSC). The BR infrastructure at SDSC provides remote site UCBackup data storage and recovery, and Virtual Private Servers for failover implementation of critical campus database and application systems. The IST facility at SDSC will also provide standard IST storage, backup and VPS services to customers wishing to deploy primary application functions at a remote site.

IST is currently replacing its out-of-support Sun/STK Network Attached Storage (NAS) with new NetApp systems at both UCB and SDSC. These will provide expanded NAS services at UCB, as well as BR support at SDSC for other UC campuses that utilize NetApp in IT.
